What drew me to God as a child was the fascination with all the amazing stories in the bible. The parting of the Red Sea; Jesus turning water to wine; even the one where he feeds the multitudes with five loaves of bread & two fish. And don't even get me started on the numerous individuals he healed back in the day.
We'll that's what got me hooked but as I've matured in my walk with God as an adult it is the God of the ordinary that has sustained my faith, more importantly my life. Its not necessarily the HUGE moments that keep me connected but instead its the simple almost mundane things that he does from day to day that captivate my heart.
Interestingly enough, it is in the humdrum, uneventful moments of life that God's extraordinary love and grace shines through. Remember the scripture that speaks about how powerful he is in that he created the entire universe but yet he's still mindful of mankind. He sees to it that we are taken care of daily along with all other living creatures & elements of nature. The flowers, trees, birds, animals, etc. We're all under his care from day to day. What a mighty & awesome God we serve!
"When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?"
I'd like to challenge each of you in the next upcoming weeks to find God in the ordinary of life. Just start with the breath in your body, that's a good place to begin. Literally that one thing alone is enough to be thankful for. Because if he doesn't breathe life into our bodies we simply can't exist. Let that sink in for a moment. It's pretty deep, right? Yet we all take it for granted from day to day including myself. I'm no exception I'm just as guilty as the next person. Or think about it, just being able to have all five of your senses intact from day to day is truly a blessing. Hearing, sight, smell, touch & taste. Not to mention the activity of your limbs, etc. Ordinary things, but an extraordinary God, holding it all together.
"For in him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, We are his offspring."
Of course we all know that God is capable of miracles. And from time to time we get to either partake of them or witness them. But often times we miss God in the simplicity of everyday living. Truth be told we've all got something to be thankful for. Blessings great or small are a gift from God above. I just hope that you now have a clearer vision of what God's hand looks like in the ordinary. It is what he does on a regular basis that makes this journey called life, worthwhile. This is just a reminder to appreciate his goodness, his loving kindness, in everyday normal living.
I promise you won't be disappointed. Afterwhile you'll come to see him as an extraordinary God in the little things you do simply because you took the time to notice.
As you go forward in your daily journey I extend love & peace to each of you. I pray that you find your "it" and that you OWN IT. That the chains of this world be broken off of you & that you walk in the light that God intended you to walk in.
With dedication & servitude
